Drought-Related Wildfire Injures Forest Ranger

By David Schmoll

Smithland, KY – A Livingston County wildfire injured a firefighter Tuesday morning. Don Lam is in serious condition with second degree burns at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. Lam was struck by a burning log that rolled off a bluff knocking Lam unconscious. A burning debris pile coupled with hot, dry and windy conditions caused the fire that burned 12 acres of woods. There is currently a burn ban in Livingston County and officials are unsure if the ban was in place at the time of the wildfire. The fire is currently under investigation by forestry officials.
