Hopkinsville Freezes Property Tax Rates

By Chris Taylor

Hopkinsville, KY – For the first time in 16 years, property tax rates in Hopkinsville will stay put. The City Council yesterday adopted Mayor Dan Kemp's recommendation the city break from its standard practice of increasing property taxes because of inflation. This year's rate will repeat last year's at about 24 cents per $100 of assessed value. Kemp hopes the effort will spare property owners additional pressure in an already stressful economy, noting the city's $5 and a half million dollar cash reserve leaves it in a strong financial position.
