Eddyville Execution Halted

By Angela Hatton

Eddyville, KY – A judge has halted the execution of a Kentucky man. Fifty-three-year-old Gregory L. Wilson was set for lethal injection at the Kentucky State Penitentiary in Eddyville this Thursday. Franklin Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd ruled today that the state's protocol for carrying out an execution is inconsistent with state law. He says it doesn't provide a safeguard to prevent a mentally handicapped or criminally insane inmate from being executed. Wilson was convicted in 1988 of kidnapping, raping and murdering 36-year-old Deborah Pooley in northern Kentucky. Wilson and two other inmates challenged how Kentucky put its protocol into place.
