Fort Campbell, KY – Nearly 300 soldiers in a Fort Campbell combat hospital unit from Fort Campbell are heading to Iraq to provide medical support to troops stationed there. The 86th Combat Support Hospital will case its colors during a ceremony this morning.
Unit commander Colonel Steven Phillips says the unit is assigned to the 44th Medical Brigade at Fort Bragg, N.C., and has a long and distinguished deployment history.
The unit has deployed in every major military campaign since World War II and has been sent to Haiti, Somalia, El Salvador, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.
