Paducah, KY – The National Weather Service in Paducah says the weather system moving through the area this weekend will not produce enough precipitation to end drought conditions. Senior Forecaster for the National Weather Service in Paducah Jim Packett says the area is too far under normal levels for one day of rainfall to end a drought.
"We're probably close to ten inches below normal in this area precipitation for the year," he said, "but this will certainly help quite a bit and it should be enough so that the burn bans are removed."
Packett says rainfall this weekend should reach over two inches. Hot, dry conditions put Western Kentucky in a Level 1 drought last month. The area has only received 40% of the normal rainfall for the year.
