Pollen High In Western Kentucky

By Angela Hatton

Paducah, KY – Dry conditions mean pollen levels have been high this season in western Kentucky. Paducah allergist Dr. Frank Block says he's seen more patients come in, even a month ago, before ragweed became a problem. Block says in general this region has a history of high pollen levels.

"Because we have a long growing season and we frequently have plenty of weather changes. The weather changes mean the wind will blow, and when the wind blows it stirs up all the small stuff."

Block says recent rainfall tempered pollen levels, but they are increasing again. According to state reports, weed pollen is expected to remain at "high" levels for the remainder of the week. Block urges people with allergies and asthma to limit exposure and take medications before they go outside.
