Clarksville Mayor's Role in DUI Investigation Subject of TBI Probe

By Chris Taylor

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Johnny Piper's involvement in a DUI investigation this summer was the subject of a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation probe. The Clarksville Leaf Chronicle reports TBI detectives determined Piper committed no crime when he visited Gateway Medical Center in July at the request of local architect Rudy Johnson. Johnson had been charged with public intoxication and assault. The probe looked into Piper's possible role that Johnson was not originally charged with driving under the influence despite the fact he had been operating a vehicle. The investigation found no evidence Piper coerced any decision-making and caused a grand jury last week to indict Johnson with a DUI charge.
