Nashville, TN – Tennessee students' achievement in reading and math have risen between 2005 and 2009 on state tests for grades 4 and 8, as well as on the National Assessment of Education Progress. That's according to a study released Tuesday by the Center on Education Policy. The multi-state study focused on proficiency test data on the state tests used for accountability under the No Child Left Behind Act.
In Tennessee, the state proficiency increase in reading was from 88-93%. In math, the jump was from 87-90%. Center on Education Policy head Jack Jennings says an increase is evidence students have actually mastered higher levels of knowledge and skills.
