Edwardsville, IL – Southern Illinois University is one step closer to furloughing faculty and staff. WPSD-TV reports SIU's board approved allowing the school chancellor to set furlough days if necessary. In the wake of lower enrollment and scarce funding SIU has already cut some 4% of its budget, implemented a hiring freeze and eliminated some positions.
