TVA's Nuclear Future

By AP

Knoxville, TN – An in-house assessment of the Tennessee Valley Authority's future shows more nuclear power production and less reliance on coal. The Integrated Resource Plan suggests scenarios that could mean idling more coal fired units, like McCracken County's Shawnee Plant, and adding nuclear units as early as 2018.

The report indicates TVA would be better positioned in the future if they diversified power production.

The public can comment on the plan through November. TVA submits the plan to the Environmental Protection Agency in March. The board looks to approve plans in April.
