Frankfort, KY – Defense lawyers for Death Row inmate Gregory Lee Wilson have filed new motions with the Kentucky Supreme Court. A stay issued last week by Franklin Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd prevented Wilson's execution. Attorney General Jack Conway appealed the stay to the Kentucky Supreme Court, but the high court couldn't act until Wilson's lawyers filed a timely response. Louisville public defender Dan Goyette filed that response. He says the AG's motion is moot, and should be dismissed, because the death warrant for Wilson expired September 17th. Wilson was given the death penalty for the 1987 abduction, rape and murder of Newport restaurant manager Deborah Pooley.
