Mayfield, KY – Many in Marshall County support developing a gun range on land near the area landfill. Over 200 people have signed a petition to begin one there. The initiative has the backing of the county's Sheriff Kevin Byars, who says a local range would be big advantage to his department. He tells WPSD-TV he's forced to take deputies to a range over an hour outside the county four times a year to qualify their firearms. Byars says having one in-county would allow officers to be able to respond in the event of an emergency.
