Fort Campbell, Ky. – A Fort Campbell soldier injured while stopping an insurgent attack on a U.S. base in eastern Afghanistan has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Valor. In June, Army Specialist Eric Paxton faced down two machine guns and an AK-47 rifle as he fought to keep insurgents armed with rocket-propelled grenades, suicide vests and automatic weapons from getting through the base's gate. Twenty-seven-year-old Paxton is recovering, at home with his family at Fort Campbell.
