Smithland Alcohol Petition

By Chris Taylor

Smithland, KY – A Smithland woman is circulating a petition to allow restaurants to serve alcohol within the city limits. Dianne Fraley says she wants to make the historic Gower House into a restaurant. The over 200-year-old building is where Henry Clay, Charles Dickens and Clara Barton once laid their heads. Fraley says the only way she can secure financial investors to restore the building is if she can serve alcohol. Mayor Joe Ward tells WPSD-TV he welcomes the idea because the town has lost many residents and anything would help. If Fraley collects enough signatures, the measure will be on the ballot this November.
