Honeywell, union to continue contract talks today

By Todd Hatton/Paducah Sun

Metropolis, IL – Striking steelworkers will resume contract negotiations with Honeywell today and tomorrow in hopes of ending a 15-week dispute. United Steelworkers employees were locked out after previous negotiations failed to produce an agreement.
The plan to resume talks comes as a judge has ordered the union to appear in Massac Circuit Court next week to respond to allegations that members have violated a restraining order. The order was instituted after Honeywell accused pickets of blocking vehicles from entering the Metropolis plant and blocking views of Highway 45 for vehicles leaving the plant. The Paducah Sun reports the union has denied the charges and has accused Honeywell of trying to break the union financially.
