Lexington, KY – The Kentucky Horse Park is closed Monday and Tuesday, recovering from the half-a million people that walked the sprawling campus during the 16-day World Equestrian Games. John Long, CEO of the United States Equestrian Federation, says the games, which are held once every four years, were a success.
"We had a lot of naysayers early on that said we can't pull this off, we're not good enough, it's too big for us. A lot of people sat on the sideline and just threw darts and arrows the whole time. The biggest lesson is the lesson for the community of Lexington, Kentucky. We did this, and for that I am eternally grateful and so proud of the place I live."
The United States earned eight medals during the games, including team gold in reining and vaulting. A financial report from the WEG foundation is expected sometime next month.
