Metropolis, Ill. – The Honeywell Corporation says negotiations between corporate officials and the United Steelworkers broke off at 9 AM today when the union walked out. Honeywell spokesman Peter Dalpe says USW representatives declined a number of potential dates to resume bargaining. The negotiations, which began yesterday, marked the first sit-down between the two sides in more than a month. Union representatives were unavailable for comment. About 220 USW Local 7-699 members have been locked out of the Metropolis nuclear plant since late June when their contract expired.
