Metropolis city council approves electric upgrades

By Rebecca Feldhaus

Metropolis, IL – The City of Metropolis is set to spend 212-thousand-dollars to upgrade its power distribution system. The city council approved the measure last night. The sum covers the upgrades to replace outdated equipment and conserve energy and cut costs. New materials include transformers, automated switches to optimize grid performance and lightning arresters. The money for lightning arresters as well as energy efficient replacement street lights comes from a grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency.
