Honeywell workers' health benefits to discontinue before next negotiation

Metropolis, Ill. – Locked out United Steelworkers in Metropolis won't have another shot a reaching an agreement with the Honeywell Corporation before their benefits are set to run out. The Honeywell Corporation and USW Local 7-669 resume negotiations November 22 in Metropolis. Plant Manager Larry Smith says Honeywell plans to discontinue health insurance and company-paid life insurance contributions October 31. Local USW President Darrell Lillie says they've already got a backup plan. "I've talked to the Body, and we can get... not as good of insurance, but we can get insurance through the United Steelworkers. And we've already got that in the process just in case they do pull our insurance." Negotiations between the union and Honeywell resume November 22 and 23.
