Cairo, Ill. – Cairo School District 1 is among 18 districts statewide, and only three in Southern Illinois, to get a piece of $270 million state capital funding dollars. The Cairo district will get more than $3,661,784. State spokesman Dave Blanchette says the funds will go toward a one-story, nine-classroom building addition to Emerson Elementary. The new addition will serve 252 new students in pre-K, Kindergarten, first grade and special education. The district must come up with $1,220,594 in matching funds.
