Murray, KY – Despite high winds and heavy rain, preliminary estimates show western Kentucky had little damage from a fast-moving storm system this morning. Most of the damage occurred in the southwest counties bordering Tennessee. Weather spotters in Calloway, Christian, and Todd counties saw rotating cloud systems, but no tornadoes touched down. Near Hopkinsville, West Kentucky Moving and Storage lost part of its roof. But Emergency Management Director Randy Graham says other building escaped major structural damage.
"Pretty fortunate with the amount of wind and the speed it came through we didn't receive more damage, but luckily it was short-lived."
Reported wind speeds reached over 30 miles per hour. The storm hit far western Kentucky around 8:30 this morning. The strongest section moved past the Pennyrile region by 11 AM. No injuries were reported.
Northwestern Tennessee also escaped major damage. Emergency responders report some trees and power lines down. Northern Henry County and Obion County also experienced scattered power outages.
