Clarksville, TN – An agreement that would've allowed Clarksville to buy materials tax-free for its Greenways contractor fell through when the city's Purchasing Department determined it was illegal. City Council members are expected to vote next week whether to tack on an additional $85,000 to the city's budget to cover the expense. The city had agreed to buy bridge trusses for Baron and Dowdle Construction, taking advantage of the city's tax-exempt status. The Clarksville Leaf Chronicle reports the deal would have kept the company from paying state and local sales taxes on the items which is illegal under city and state purchasing laws.
