Hazel, KY – Hazel city officials are considering ways to keep their fire department viable. The Murray Ledger and Times reports the city is suffering from a lack of volunteers. At a meeting last night the city appointed a committee to consider options. Mayor Kerry Vasseur says those include a volunteer drive, more training hours, and asking for volunteer help from the Calloway County Fire-Rescue squad. Vasseur says as a last resort, the city would disband the fire department and turn fire control over to Calloway County.
