Paducah, KY – The western Kentucky southern Illinois area will become part of an eastern extension of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail. The expansion to the east coast was the subject of a public meeting held by the National Park Service last night in Paducah. Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation President James Mallory says the trail would tie in with a number of area attractions, including Fort Massac State Park near Metropolis. Mallory told attendees Meriwether Lewis, William Clark and the Kentucky men who joined them on their expedition to the Pacific Ocean passed through the region in 1803.
