Purchase, Pennyrile – Nearly a million dollars in federal grants are headed to advocacy programs that serve the Purchase and Pennyrile. Governor Steve Beshear announced the awards today as part of $5.56 million coming to the commonwealth from the Federal Victims of Crime Act. The funds go to support victims' services, including domestic violence shelters, children's advocacy centers and rape crisis centers. The biggest lump-sum awards include $226,760 to the Purchase Area Sexual Assault Center, $141,400 to the Murray-Paducah Merryman House, and $135,340 to Child Watch Children's Advocacy Center, also serving the Purchase. In the Pennyrile, Hopkins County's Family Advocacy Center received $41,102.
