Henderson, KY – The city of Henderson is set to consider creating a memorial to people killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks using a steel beam from the World Trade Center. Henderson firefighter plans to pitch the idea to the Henderson City Commission Tuesday. According to a memo presented to the commission, the beams are provided at no cost on the condition they are used solely for memorials and not for profit. The Henderson Fire Department has already been given conditional approval to receive the beam. The memorial would be constructed in front of the flagpole at Starlite Fire Station. Authorities say about $2,000 would be needed to build the memorial and that a number of businesses have already agreed to donate the needed materials.
