Clarksville, TN – Army Staff Sergeant Heath Calhoun of Clarksville, Tennessee is getting a special post-Veterans Day gift this year: A new home. Homes for Our Troops, a nonprofit veteran support organization, will present him with the keys to the home tomorrow. Calhoun, who received a Purple Heart and George C. Lang Award for Courage for his service in Iraq, has three children. He lost both legs above the knee when a grenade hit his vehicle in 2003.
Calhoun and his family will be honored later tomorrow during a performance at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. The event will also launch the 100 More Homes for Our Troops campaign. Homes for Our Troops builds specially adapted homes and gives them to veterans with life-altering injuries.
