Veterans Memorial to Be Unveiled in Murray

By AP

Murray, KY – A new veteran's memorial will be unveiled this weekend at Chestnut Park in Murray. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6291 has worked more than six years to erect the memorial. It includes a bronze eagle with a wingspan of more than four feet, granite monuments topped with brass plaques for the five branches of military service and three tall flagpoles.

Vietnam veteran Richard Henneberger says the memorial is "quite touching." He says the statue of the eagle, with a white head and tailfeathers, and a gold beak and claws looks like "a work of art." The memorial will be unveiled during a ceremony tomorrow morning.
