Louisville, KY – Louisville Orchestra administrators want to cut 16 musicians from the 71 players and cut pay for those remaining. The musicians say the administration also wants a shorter season. As of October, the orchestra needed two million dollars to stay afloat. The musicians say they offered to help raise money for the orchestra, but were told cuts would still be necessary. Further information about contract negotiations is unavailable, but orchestra CEO Robert Birman says bankruptcy was mentioned as a last resort.
