Frankfort, KY – Kentucky's Department of Corrections is transferring state prisoners nearing the end of their sentences to the Daviess County Detention Center and other county jails. The 10 inmates that recently went to Daviess County were each serving time in prisons for nonviolent or nonsexual offenses. All were convicted crimes that sent them to prison for more than five years, but they are now in the final 18 months of their sentences.
The Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer reports so far, only three other county jails along with Daviess - Marion, Shelby and Simpson counties - were receiving inmates through the program. Officials say the Department of Corrections will review the expansion in December to see if it is worth continuing.
