Closings Allow Curators to Catch Up

By Gabe Bullard

Frankfort, KY – In less than three weeks, three historical sites in Frankfort will temporarily close. Due to budget cuts and staff shortages, curators at the Center for Kentucky History, the Old State Capitol and the Kentucky Military History Museum have been covering jobs that are typically handled by part-time employees. Kentucky Historical Society spokesperson Lisa Cleveland says the sites will close for three months so curators can catch up on their work.

"Unfortunately right now, we had to decide where the priorities are and we hope that people will understand, and when we re-open, we want people to be able to enjoy those things."

The sites will close on December 12th. They will be open on January 8th and February 12th. Cleveland says the sites will also open for large tour groups that give the society advance notice.
