Frankfort, KY – Last year Kentucky had one of the highest incidences of flu in the country. But the signs point to a more typical flu season this year.
Public Health Commissioner Doctor William Hacker says the heaviest season of flu won't start until late December. But Hacker says the state has had a few cases and potential cases of influenza. They've also seen cases of H1N1, which caused last year's pandemic.
"And we expect to see the H1N1 strain be with us for many years to come. Typically when new strain develops it evolves into the regular seasonal flu."
One shot or nasal spray vaccine will protect against the H1N1 virus and other strains. Hacker says the supply is plentiful this year and encourages everyone over six months of age to get a vaccine.
