Washington, D. C. – Vice President Joe Biden swears in Illinois Republican Mark Kirk this afternoon as the state's newest senator. Kirk replaces Democrat Roland Burris, who was appointed by former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. Kirk fills the remainder of Burris' term and begins a full six-year term in January.
