Mayfield, KY – The Graves County Sheriff's Department is warning residents of a scam after a local woman was almost tricked into paying over $5,000. She was told her grandson was in a Canadian jail and needed bail money. Sheriff John Davis says this type of scam is common and the caller plays on the emotions of the victim who is worrying about helping their grandchild and not thinking clearly. He advises residents to never send money unless they make the original contact and are aware of what they are doing.
