Louisville, KY – A new drug to be used by the horse industry has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration. The Louisville company CreoSalus will manufacture SucroMate Equine. The drug will regulate ovulation in mares through a single injection increasing the likelihood of conception for both natural bred and artificially inseminated horses.
Dr. Barry Simon is co-creator of the drug.
"The vast majority of the mares will ovulate within 48 hours which allows you to book the mare to a stallion and have some assuridy that she will ovulate."
SucroMate Equine is the first FDA approved drug of its kind to be developed and manufactured in Kentucky. It will be available at the start of the 2011 breeding season in February. Company officials say work is underway for similar drugs for pigs and cows.
