Paducah, KY – Three local organizations commemorate World AIDS Day tomorrow in Paducah. Heartland CARES Incorporated, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Outreach Ministry for Healing of AIDS host a ceremony at Grace Episcopal Church to educate citizens about HIV and AIDS. Heartland CARES Executive Director Sue Fenske says there are still many misconceptions about both diseases.
"So much progress has been made with regard to fighting this disease and so many people still think that getting a diagnosis of being HIV positive is a death sentence and really nothing could be further from the truth."
Fenske says it is not a fundraiser, but a remembrance of those who have died of HIV and AIDS as well as an educational event. The candlelight walk begins at 5:30 p.m. The event includes a talk from HIV activist and physicians and performances from local dancers and choirs.
