Paris, Tenn. – Paris, Tennessee officials are moving forward with plans to build a public safety shelter. Yesterday, the Paris Special School District Board voted to join an inter-local agreement with the City of Paris and perhaps Henry County to construct the facility. Inman Middle School students would have access to the building in case of a tornado or other severe weather. Paris and Henry County residents could also use the facility, which would provide protection for 771 people. Superintendent Mike Brown says, grants from both the Federal and Tennessee Emergency Management agencies are slated to pay nearly 88 percent of the cost. The city, county and school district would make up the rest. Brown says, they'll be reviewing bids next April, and construction is set to begin as soon as school lets out.
