Murray, KY – Despite few cases in western Kentucky, State Public Health officials are urging Kentuckians to get vaccinated against whooping cough. The state has seen a significant increase in cases of Pertussis. More than 250 cases have been reported this year, compared with just 47 three years ago. Calloway County Health Center Site Manager Linda Cavitt says only one case has been confirmed in the Purchase District. The Pennryile area has reported 5 cases. State Health Commissioner Doctor William Hacker says children under one year of age are at particular risk for severe cases. Residents can get a booster shot or first-time vaccine from their primary care physician or their county health department.
