Washington D.C. – A Virginia-based firm will be working to dispose of thousands of depleted uranium hexafluoride containers at the Paducah USEC facility as part of a national effort to reduce the footprint of the nation's Cold War nuclear legacy. The US Department of Energy awarded Babcock & Wilcox Conversion Services a 5-year $428 million contract to assume operations at the Paducah facility. A DOE spokesman says the operation will make significant progress in the agency's national cleanup effort.
