Paducah, KY – 19 Southern Illinois University Carbondale architecture students yesterday presented their ideas to Paducah officials to revamp the city's downtown riverfront area. The class project's goal was to come up with a list of ideas that would generate growth linked to river travel. Some of the ideas include a welcoming sign over the riverfront's Broadway entrance, an outdoor amphitheater, additional parking down along Kentucky Avenue, and a 50-foot observation pier that extends over the river past Broadway for foot traffic. Riverfront Development Executive Director Steve Doolittle tells the Paducah Sun some of the recommendations are quite strong.
