Carbondale, IL – A documentary about the late U.S. Sen. Paul Simon is in the works in southern Illinois. Officials at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale along with WSIU-TV are working on the project and hope it'll be ready by early next year. It's called "P.S. Illinois." WSIU news director Jak Tichenor says a student first started working on the project in the early 2000s. Since then Tichenor has conducted more interviews and gone through hundreds of tapes at the university's library. The documentary will first air on WSIU then will be made available to public television stations throughout the state and country. Simon served as Illinois' U.S. senator from 1985 to 1997 after holding numerous state posts.
