Illinois – Illinois State officials want to collect unpaid sales taxes from as far back as 2004 from purchases made online, through mail or over the phone. Illinois Department of Revenue Spokesman Mike Klemens says the Department estimates it's losing $150 million a year in unpaid sales tax. As incentive to come forward, Illinois has enforced a tax amnesty. It allows those who come forward to pay what they owe without penalty. The amnesty runs January 1 through October 15.
