Hopkinsville, KY – A one-time bookkeeper at the Christian County jail has been charged after a probe into more than $40,000 that couldn't be accounted for. Defense attorney Ben Fletcher says his client, Honey Darlene Summers, is named in the sealed indictment returned last week. Summers was the administrative assistant who handled all the jail's bookkeeping when the money went missing. She worked at the jail for about 22 years before being fired in 2008. The probe started in December 2007, when the sheriff said he found almost $43,000 cash in Summers' office. The discovery prompted an audit that found multiple financial improprieties auditors attributed to Summers. Summers is scheduled for arraignment on January 19th.
