Bowling Green, KY – Public defenders and prosecutors in Kentucky may qualify for student loan forgiveness. A grant from the US Justice Department will allow monetary awards for 48 eligible attorneys in Kentucky. Ted Franzeim with the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority says the program is aimed at public defenders and prosecutors whose salaries often don't compare to the private sector.
"I think that one of the concerns is that financially it has been difficult to attract newly-minted attorneys to go into those professions. I think the intent of this program is to encourage those to enter public service."
Applications much be received by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority by January 4th. The agency has more information about the program posted on its website.
