Madisonville, KY – The Hopkins County Humane Society has hired their fourth shelter manager this year. Former board member Michael Midkiff of Dawson Springs takes over the job December 27. The Madisonville Messenger reports the shelter has been without a dedicated manager since mid-September, when Michelle Burnside resigned. The shelter and the humane society board have been struggling with staff transitions since last year, when the county posted a euthanasia rate of nearly 80 percent. Midkiff previously worked as the shelter's webmaster. He says the goal is to make Hopkins County a no-kill shelter by 2016.
