Cairo, IL – The Illinois Department of Transportation will close the US 60/62 Bridge connecting Cairo, Illinois to Missouri starting January 11. Transportation spokesman Keith Miley says the closure is due to a deteriorated floor beam system. Miley says the damage is due to an excessive number of overweight trucks driving over the bridge. He expects the bridge to reopen in December 2011. Traffic will detour through Cairo and I-57. On average 3,000 vehicles cross the bridge daily.
