Murray, KY – Donations to charities increase this time of year as many individuals and businesses work to get a tax-break, while making a positive impact. Certified Public Accountant Tony Page says monetary donations aren't the only way to contribute to year-end giving.
"What comes up a lot is so someone cleans out their closet and donates some clothes, maybe baby clothes, or other household goods like that. And it's always a challenge how you value that information, or those goods."
Page says if a non-monetary donation is less than $500, you need to get a written acknowledgment of the donation from the charity. Single donations of more than $500 require a special form. Page encourages those interested in year-end giving to visit to get a listing of qualified charitable organizations.
