Murray, KY – The Kentucky State Police say only one person was killed on the state's highways during the Christmas holiday period. Trooper John Hawkins says increasing numbers of drivers are using seat belts, and that is having an impact.
"Over the last couple of years we have increased our enforcement of seat belts, and of course with the passage of the primary seat belt law we're able to do that more effectively and increase our seat belt usage in the state."
Hawkins says the only motorist killed during the holiday period in Kentucky was a person who wasn't wearing a seat belt. The KSP spokesman believes it's very possible that many drivers used extra caution because of the weather conditions. The Christmas holiday enforcement period ran from Thursday through Sunday night.
