Kentucky – When the 2011 Kentucky General Assembly convenes on January 4th, Senate Republicans will stick with their current leaders. But as Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeigh reports, Senate Democrats must choose a new leader.
Senate Minority Leader Ed Worley of Richmond didn't seek re-election to the Senate, and Sen. R.J. Palmer of Winchester is considered the frontrunner for Worley's leadership position. The Louisville Courier-Journal reports, the former Gov. Julian Carroll, now a Frankfort senator, is running for minority leader.
Minority Whip Jerry Rhoads of Madisonville is being challenged by Sen. Joey Pendleton of Hopkinsville.
In the House, former Speaker Jody Richards of Bowling Green will take on House Speaker Pro Tem Larry Clark of Louisville. And Rep. Tommy Thompson of Owensboro will challenge Majority Whip John Will Stacy of West Liberty.
Minority Caucus Chair Bob DeWeese of Louisville is being challenged by Reps. Brad Montell of Shelbyville and Jim Decesare of Bowling Green. And Rep. Danny Ford of Mount Vernon is taking on Minority Whip David Floyd of Bardstown.
