Clarksville offers Operation Safe Ride New Year's Eve

By Jacque Day

Clarksville, Tenn. – The Clarksville Transit System will offer free bus rides late New Year's Eve and early New Year's Day in an effort to keep the roads safer. Clarksville Transit Director Jimmy Smith says the purpose of Operation Safe Ride is to prevent drunk driving. Free bus service runs from 11 PM Friday through 4 AM Saturday. During the five-hour period, Operation Safe Ride will offer free rides home from any public or private location within the Clarksville city limits. The number to call to get a free ride home is 931-553-2429.

Paducah isn't offering holiday-specific free rides on New Year's Eve. But because New Year's Eve falls on the last day of the month, Paducah riders can get a free fare on its fixed-route buses Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM only. The Murray-Calloway County Transit Authority is offering no free rides for the year-end holiday.
